UNDERSTANDING YOUR DEVICE

What is an ICD?

An implantable cardioverter defibrillator is a small device placed under your skin that continuously watches your heart rhythm. If it detects a dangerously fast or irregular rhythm, it delivers a shock to help your heart return to a normal beat.

The device tracks your heart 24 hours a day and records important data about your heart rate and rhythm.

If a dangerous rhythm occurs, the ICD can deliver pacing or a shock to restore a regular heartbeat.

Thanks to remote monitoring, your device can securely send information to our clinic — often automatically.

REMOTE MONITORING

How Remote Monitoring Works

Remote monitoring lets your device share check-in data with our clinic from home, reducing the need for extra trips and helping us catch issues early.

Set up your home monitor

You'll be given a small bedside monitor that connects to your device over the air and sends data to our secure clinic portal. Your care team will help you get it set up.

Your device checks in automatically

Depending on your device, it may send data nightly or when you place it over the monitor. You don't have to do anything special day to day.

Your care team reviews the data

Our doctors review the transmissions and follows up with you if anything needs attention — no appointment required just to share your device data.

Need help with your portal or monitor?

Our team can walk you through signing in, answer questions about your device, or schedule an in-office check.
